Carolinian inaugural invitation, 1990.

Multi-color printed paper invitation with envelope and RSVP card issued for the inauguration of the Carolinian (New York-Charlotte). From the Ann Owens Collection. Through the financial support of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the current version of the Carolinian launched with an inaugural run on May 11, 1990. Although the train ran between Charlotte and New York, it was paired with the Palmetto (New York-Jacksonville, Fla.) between Rocky Mount, N.C.
and New York City. In 1991, the Carolinian began
traveling the entire New York-Charlotte route as
a separate train.

Coast Starlight brochure, 1990s.

Brochure describes accommodations and amenities available aboard the Coast Starlight, such as wine tastings, as well as the diverse landscapes through which the route passes. "Turn yourself over to the ultimate off-road adventure...The Coast Starlight offers a break from reality...Breathe."

Multi-color printed paper route guide issued in the 1990s for the daily Texas Eagle (Chicago-San Antonio; tri-weekly to Los Angeles). Guide offers brief descriptions of cities and towns along the route; overview of crew members and on-board accommodations; and photo tips. From the Ann Owens Collection.
